Commander’s Corner
Stan Kinney –Commander
I love Post 89. I love the people as well as the property and I would hate to leave it. Many years ago when our ancestors built the latest version of 89, they built it for all our members plus the thought of expanding. The post was full almost everyday. As we forge ahead to the future, times are a changing. We have over 1000 veteran members and only a hand full use the post. We have tried different bands; gave the club a face lift; bought new large TVs; through on a few new coats of paint, and added new carpeting. We have a great set of officers that have sacrificed a lot of time and energy into the post. We also have a good set of employees, but the volunteers have gone down a lot and so have our customers. It is true. The Executive Board has put together a committee to look over the finances to see if we can keep up with the bills, and yes, look around at other smaller buildings that we can afford. November 12th will be the next post meeting at 7pm. After the regular meeting, we will have an OPEN
MEETING for the Vets., Ladies, and the Son's starting around 8:00PM. This night may determine the post's future. We have to come to some conclusions and decide if you really want an AMVETS 89. This is not a joke or a hoax. I would not want the future to be determined by the 25 people that come to the meetings on a regular basis. Please be early.
With that being said, we had our National Commander drop by last month for a quick visit. He told me
he was very impressed with our post as well as the people.
We had a great kid's Halloween party as well as our adult party. We will still have a potluck lunch with
every OSU football game. Please bring a small dish to pass.
Again, please remember Post 89 in your prayers. We will be going through some changes in the near
future. Our own Gary Shotts wants to retire soon so we are actively looking for an accountant or a book
keeper. If you know someone looking for a job, please contact me at the post. We may also be looking
for a new bar manager as well. These are two big jobs here.
Thanks for your time and God bless!!!
1st Vice Commander
